Margo Nickel has been making hats professionally for many years and has collected a great deal of experience working behind the scenes of the very diverse and demanding New York theatre, film, and dance worlds. Her long list of credits includes working with the acclaimed theatrical milliner Woody Shelp on numerous Broadway productions including Chorus Line, The Phantom of the Opera, Into the Woods, Anything Goes, Jerome Robbins Broadway, and the Christian LaCroix designs for the American Ballet Theatre. Margo has designed and made hats for the Oscar winning film Wall Street, and has created hats for the runway collections of Bill Blass, Willi Smith, and Angel Estrada.
Relocating from New York City to the Southwest, Margo was the head milliner for the Arizona Opera Company under the directorship of Mr. Glynn Ross. Her work has appeared in Tosca, Carmen, The Magic Flute, and Der Ring of Nibelungen. Her own designs have been featured on Good Morning America.
Margo owns and operates hatshadows, (www.hatshadows.com) an online shop featuring hats and millinery supplies for professional and aspiring milliners.
And in a 180 turn from hat making, Margo now creates shirts of distinction for men and women. Under the label Barrio Threads, (www.barriothreads.com) apparel and accessories are individually hand crafted and sewn on vintage Singer 201 sewing machines using the brightest and most exciting all cotton prints designed in the USA.
